Poster of Obama as Hitler Causes Uproar in Lincoln Park

The Lincoln Park police responded after receiving calls from local residents concerning Lyndon LaRouche's Political Action Committee.

In an effort to get its political views across to local residents, the LaRouche Political Action Committee (PAC) have gathered Downriver in recent weeks, but are getting a cold shoulder.

The PAC was established by Lyndon H. LaRouche Jr., an economist and controversial American politician who transformed himself from a Marxist theoretician to a far right conservative. He has campaigned for the U.S. presidency seven times as a Democrat; once as a candidate for the U.S. Labor Party; and once as an independent.

He unsuccessfully campaigned for the U.S. House of Representatives in Virginia in 1990 and formed his PAC in 2004.

Large signs posted by the group depicted President Barack Obama with a mustache similar to that worn by notorious Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, The News-Herald reports. PAC supporters handed out flyers to passing motorists asking for Obama’s impeachment, but were mostly shunned by local residents.

After receiving several complaints, the Lincoln Park police asked the group to leave. It was then that the police discovered that the PAC didn’t have the required permits to distribute political material along the road.

“We’ll be back once we get this all straightened out with City Hall,” said Mike Lowery, a spokesman for the LaRouche PAC.

Lowery, who was among the PAC supports handing out flyers, said that because of the president’s policies, the PAC is urging people to to “dump Obama.”

“You don’t have to like my president,” Allen Park resident Joe Terry told the Times-Herald. “But you do have to respect him. It was really upsetting to see.”

Terry said that when he called the police, they were already aware of the situation.

“It made me feel good that I wasn’t the only one that called to report them,” he said. “I don’t know who these people are but they are inciting people to riot.”
